Carolina Queen

The Carolina Queen is a name given to a famous 18.8 carat emerald cut from an impressive 71 carat crystal found in 1998 by Jamie Hill at the North American Gem Mine near Hiddenite, North Carolina and is one of several stones that make up a collection of stones termed the "Carolina Royal Family." The Carolina Queen was sent to New York for cutting into it's present pear? shape, and later set in a gold pennant setting and surrounded by 36 diamonds.

The stone has been privately valuated at over US$1,000,000, however in December of 2000, it was pulled from an auction in New York after struggling to receive a bid of only $470,000.

The stone presently resides in Statesville, North Carolina.
