D. A. Porter

D.A. Porter was an Inspector of Public School Buildings in north eastern New South Wales, Australia. While prospecting an abandoned tin mine near Emmaville, News South Wales, D. A. Porter discovered some green crystals.

He then submitted these crystals to T.W.E. David, a Geological Surveyor at New South Wales Department of Mines & Agriculture, who then was able to determine that the crystals were "beryls of a colour sufficiently emerald green to entitle them to be termed emeralds".

As such, D.A. Porter is generally considered to have located the first recorded discovery of emeralds in Australia.
