Facet

A flat, polished surface of a gemstone is called a facet. Depending on the paticular cut, a gemstone may have dozens of facets, though there are several standardized cuts with fixed counts, such as the round brilliant cut, which has 58 facets. Proper faceting allows a gemstone to maximize its brillance and sparkle.
