Morganite is a type of beryl, but more specifically, the common name for pink beryl. The name was given in 1911 to honor J.P. Morgan (of J.P. Morgan Chase fame), a prominent businessman, financier, and gemstone collector of the time. Morganite is typically pink, but may contain orange, lilac, or peach tones; all of which can be attributed to trace amounts of manganese.

Morganite has a 7.5-8.0 rating on the Mohs Scale of Hardness.

Brazil is the biggest producer of Morganite but it can also be found in Madagascar, California, Pakistan, Italy, Mozambique, Namibia, and Zimbabwe.
