Pakistan
Emerald deposits are found along four geographic areas in Pakistan, mostly around Peshawar, the provincial capitol of the Northwest Providence including Barang-Turghao in the Banjaur Region, about 50 miles to the north, Gandao some 25 miles to the northwest, and the Mingora Mines just over 120 miles to the northeast. In addition, the Khaltaro are desposits about 45 miles East of Gilgit in Northern Pakistan and geologically speaking are some of the youngest known deposits in the world, at a mere 9 million years old.
With the Exception of the Mingora Mines, none of the finds within Pakistan are noted for producing commercially signifigant and/or gemstone quality material. |
