Red Emerald

Red emerald is also known as Bixbite, Bixbyite, or red beryl and is the rarest of all minerals that belong to the beryl class. Its red color comes from manganese, which also is responsible for the color in Morganite. Gem quality crystals of red beryl are scarce and very small, with the largest ones weighing less than 3 carats. Because of its unique color and rarity, red beryl often fetches very high prices per carat on even the smallest cut stones. Red emerald is only mined in limited quantity in the Wah Wah Mountains of Utah.

Like green emerald? and other beryls, red emerald has a 7.5-8.0 rating on the Mohs Scale of Hardness.
