Emerald City

The Emerald City is the capital city in the fictional Land of Oz, the primary setting for much of the storyline for the over 40 books that make up the Oz series, written by Frank Baum with later contributions written by other authors since 1900.

The Emerald City is the final destination on the Yellow Brick Road and is described as being constructed from green colored glass, emeralds, and other precious gemstones.

Fans of the Oz series will also recognize the emerald city as the home of the Wizard of Oz, whom helps Dorthy Gale, the protagonist from the first book of the series, return to her home in Kansas.

It has been suggested that Frank Baum's inspiration for the Emerald City may have come from the White City, a part of the World Columbian Exposition located in Chicago, Illinois.
